This course helps to address some of the current concerns around the evidence needed for moderation, what the process will involve and what is meant by the 100% rule. It will also clarify the expectations for those children meeting the greater depth criteria.

Who can attend?

Teachers in First, Infant, and Primary Schools (particularly but not exclusive to Y2), Primary English Subject Leaders, Senior Leadership team members, *Headteachers.

  • To be prepared as a whole school for assessment using the Interim Assessment Frameworks at KS1
  • Evidence to support Moderation
  • The Moderation process and how to use it as a positive process
  • Moderation of children at pre Key Stage standards

Course Objectives

By the end of the course participants will:

  • Explore the requirements for assessment using the Interim Teacher Assessment Frameworks for Key Stage 1
  • Be aware of how the end of Key Stage assessment is a whole school issue
  • Be able to assess children’s work in line with National Expectations at the end of Key Stage 1
  • Be confident in good practice as preparation for Moderation (either in house, across schools or with the LA)
  • Understand the assessment requirements for those children at Pre-Key Stage standards.

Tutor information

Claire is an experienced moderator, literacy consultant and deputy headteacher. She has worked as a primary literacy and numeracy consultant for national strategies for two local authorities and is a current serving practitioner. As a moderator she has worked in both Key Stage One and Key Stage Two and has moderated using the ITAFs in 2016.

In addition to her work as a moderator, she specialises in supporting teachers in English assessment, planning, and teaching. Claire is passionate about improving the teaching of literacy in Primary Schools and delivering lively, valuable training to enable teachers to deliver first class literacy for all children.
