Improving performance through coaching & mentoring – Building skills

The course will begin by briefly re-capping key messages from the introductory programme (see above), before training delegates in the core skills of coaching and mentoring conversations. These include listening and questioning skills, coaching models, feedback, storytelling & metaphor. In addition, the course will address some of the key challenges encountered by coaches & mentors and offer helpful techniques and approaches to address these. Finally the topic of coaching styles will be examined. Throughout the day there will be practice sessions and case studies

Who can attend this course?

The course is appropriate for those who have a good understanding of how coaching and mentoring work, and some introductory skills training, but require more in-depth training in how to conduct successful coaching or mentoring conversations. It is appropriate for leaders who have been given the task of raising the skills and/or performance of new or experienced staff, and it is an ideal follow-up course to undertake following PBM’s introductory coaching and mentoring workshop.The course is also appropriate for those already providing coaching & mentoring who have received training in the past, but who are seeking a refresher in these skills.

We find most people attending the programme are aiming to use coaching & mentoring skills to enhance staff skills and performance, but the course will also be of interest to schools & colleges using mentoring to provide broader support to staff.
