This one day skill based course is aimed at headteachers, senior leaders, and subject coordinators in primary and secondary schools. The course is designed to provide information on the arrangements for inspection and the implications for those preparing for, and managing the inspection process. It provides practical information about the conduct of inspections and what to expect before, during, and after an inspection. The course includes an opportunity to review and consider important indicators of good practice in leadership and management, school improvement, school self-evaluation, and monitoring, in order to prepare key members of staff for inspection.

Course Objectives

The purpose of the training is to provide:

  • an understanding of the inspection arrangements including the evaluation schedule, grade descriptors, and implications for managing the process of inspection
  • practical information about the conduct of inspections, what to expect before, during, and after an inspection
  • an opportunity to review and consider important indicators of good practice in leadership and management, school improvement, school self-evaluation, and monitoring so that key members of staff are ready for inspection

Bruce McAlpine has managed the Company for 18 years. He writes and develops training materials and tutors many of the courses. He is an experienced lead inspector and was an additional inspector. Before becoming an inspector, he taught in infant, primary and middle schools and was a headteacher for seventeen years.
