Exciting ways to teach Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar: Two new CPD courses

We are delighted to announce the release of two new courses

The course’s help to address the need to teach Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar in KS1 and KS2 with direct reference to the age related expectations at the end of each Key Stage. It will help to support teachers with the teaching of SPaG in each year group in order to ensure that the teaching of SPaG is a whole school concern, where the children are taught specific skills and qualities to assist them when experiencing the SATs.

The course is provided by Claire; an experienced teacher and literacy consultant, moderator and also a current serving practitioner.

In a recent interview regarding the courses, Claire said:

“I have gradually become more aware of teachers expressing an interest in receiving practical support to cope with the huge challenges and expectations they face when teaching the 2014 English National Curriculum.” She went on to say “The new courses feature a collection of activities to engage, enthuse and motivate the teaching of spelling, punctuation and grammar.”

“By the end of the course participants will:

  • Explore the requirements for SPaG using the National Curriculum 2014 for Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2
  • Be aware of how the end of Key Stage assessment is a whole school issue
  • Be confident in delivering interesting, purposeful and practical SPaG lessons using games and activities

Claire has worked as a Primary Literacy and Numeracy consultant for National Strategies for two Local Authorities. As a moderator, she has worked in both Key Stage One and Key Stage Two and has moderated using the ITAFs in 2016. In addition to her work as a moderator, she specialises in supporting teachers in English assessment, planning, and teaching.

Claire is passionate about improving the teaching of literacy in Primary Schools and delivering lively, valuable training to enable teachers to deliver first class literacy for all children.
