The key task for all school leaders is to ensure that every child has the best teaching possible. The national expectation is that all schools will be good which means that all teaching has to be at least good. The inspection schedule examines how appraisal and performance management can be used effectively to improve the quality of teaching. This course looks closely at the processes and behaviours used by good leaders to ensure that teachers are supported in every way to develop their potential.

Participants will be helped to

  • Understand the existing regulations and expectations for performance management and teacher appraisal
  • Explore the implementation of performance related pay and the implications
  • Consider a range of approaches used by good leaders
We will do this by considering the skills, understanding and actions needed to implement effective appraisal and performance related pay. Possible pay structures and expectations for level of performance will also be explored.
