This course is designed to help schools who want to achieve consistently good teaching.  It is a practical course designed to help participants raise the quality of their teaching from ‘requiring improvement’ to good by understanding how quality teaching accelerates learning. Participants will be helped to develop their practical skills and knowledge to respond to the learning needs of all groups of pupils in order to raise achievement. The course provides opportunities for participants to observe good practice and identify priorities to develop their teaching.

Participants will be helped to:

  • Become familiar with the current Inspection Framework
  • Know how judgements are formed, particularly in the areas of Achievement and the Quality of Teaching
  • Recognise the components of a good lesson
  • Recognise good practice and the impact on learning
  • Identify good progress over time and pace and depth of learning in lessons
  • Use assessment information and data to identify the next steps of learning
  • Respond to the needs of all pupils and groups of pupils to raise achievement
  • Enhance classroom provision
  • Create an inclusive  learning environment
  • Evaluate their own practice

Course Overview and In-School Training Information

Participants will be helped to become familiar with the current Inspection Framework, know how judgements are formed, particularly in the areas of Achievement and the Quality of Teaching and recognise the components of a good lesson. Participants will also be helped to recognise good practice and the impact on learning, identify good progress over time and pace and depth of learning in lessons and use assessment information and data to identify the next steps of learning. The course looks at ways in which participants can respond to the needs of all pupils and groups of pupils to raise achievement, enhance classroom provision, create an inclusive  learning environment and evaluate their own practice.

The course is aimed at teachers, including newly qualified teachers and higher level teaching assistants, in Infant, Primary and Middle schools who want to achieve consistently good teaching.
